Greetings ICCSSA members,
First and foremost, we would like to thank all of you who cast your votes in the 2020-2021 election earlier this month. Your participation is much appreciated and we are thrilled at the level of engagement from our members! Unfortunately, as we wrapped up ballot collection, it was brought to the Board’s attention that one of the candidates had solicited votes through a personal social media account. While the social media post was clearly done without malice or ill-intent, it did result in non-members casting votes in our election, which they are not eligible to do. This gave the candidate an unfair advantage over others.
ICCSSA leadership has spoken with the candidate regarding the situation and the Board has decided that a new election is necessary to ensure the process is as fair as possible to all involved. The candidate in question chose to withdraw themselves from consideration and will not be included on the new ballot. The Board thanks this candidate for their interest in serving and invites them to run for office again in the future should they wish to do so. ICCSSA always needs enthusiastic leaders who are excited to get involved!
As we launch this new election process, the Board wishes to make it clear that only ICCSSA members may vote. ICCSSA members are currently employed student services professionals at ICCSSA member institutions. Member institutions include all Iowa community colleges. The Board apologizes that the stipulation regarding voter eligibility wasn’t more clearly communicated previously and pledges to make sure this information is more readily shared in future elections.
